In this article, the nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy (NRVS) is reviewed. This includes its principles and applications in bioinorganic chemistry and metalloenzymology. The NRVS technique is very appealing for its power to probe selectively vibrational modes associated with the Fe centers that allows one to define unambiguously geometric structures of such sites. This has been demonstrated on one example of the NRVS application – the recent determination of the highly reactive intermediate of the halogenase SyrB2.
